Examples of Multimodal Composition

Since we’ll be discussing multimodal composition at next week’s meeting (and hopefully beyond), I thought I’d share w/ you some work a colleague has been doing.

Dan Wuebben is a lecturer in the Writing Program at UC Santa Barbara and a former Writing Fellow at QCC. In the following article he discusses the challenges and successes of using video flip cameras and the streets of NYC to teach Don DeLillo’s White Noise: Synesthetic White Noise: Translating, Transforming, and Transmitting Affect/Text.” Also, you might be interested in a video essay he made in which he theorizes multimodal composition and offers student samples: “Text-Video-Text: Remediation and Multimodal Composition.”

Your comments in response to these texts is welcome. Also, please feel free to post any other articles/videos/assignments/etc. about multimodal composition here on the ECC blog.
